Available Gun Dogs For The 2020 Hunting Season
Let Us Build You a Custom Gun Dog
Have you been searching the country for a Started or Finished Gun Dog and not finding what you are looking for, or disappointed when you take the dog on your first hunt together? Raney Ranch Retrievers receives over 30 inquires a month for Started or Finished Gun Dogs. We try keeping a couple of puppies from each litter to train and sale as a Started or Finished Gun Dog but they all end up being purchased before their training has even really started. So we came up with a program called “Build a Gun Dog”.
Raney Ranch can build you a Custom Gun Dog to one of three levels, with choice of sex and color, specifically to the type of hunting that you engage in for a flat fee.
Your dog will be a puppy that we bred and raised out of our accomplished dogs and studs that we may use to breed to our females which will all have accomplished AKC Hunt Test and/or Field Trial Titles, OFA and Eye Certifications and tested for EIC and CNM.
We will provide you an approximate date the dog will be ready, depending on the level of dog that you are requesting. Once the dog is at the level that was agreed on you can take delivery of your dog, or we can contract to a higher level at an additional flat fee, or we can continue the dogs training at our current daily/monthly training rate.
Before the formal training begins at 6 months of age your puppy is socialized, crate trained and enters our Puppy Head Start Program at 4 months of age. Once the formal training begins a Started Gun Dog takes approximately 5 to 6 months and a Finished Gun Dog takes an additional 6 to 9 months. When your dog has completed the Finished Gun Dog Program, you can move your dog into our Advanced Finished Gun Dog Program at our currently monthly training fee or your guaranteed Membership rate.
The different levels of a Gun Dog are described below
Started Gun Dog: This is a dog that is obedience trained on-lead and off-lead, collar conditioned, force fetched and relatively steady to shot. The dog will be able to retriever any mark it sees fall on land or water with a high success rate and quarter the field. This dog would be able to successfully achieve an AKC Junior Hunter Title.
Finished Gun Dog: This is a dog that can do what a Started Gun Dog can do but also has developed memory to pick up double marks it has seen fall on land or water with a high success rate. This dog can also run a blind retrieve and be directed with whistles and hand signals to marks it did not see fall on land or water and able to honor another working dog in the field. This dog would be able to successfully achieve an AKC Senior Hunter Title.
Advanced Finished Gun Dog: This is a dog that can do what a Finished Gun Dog can do but has developed memory to pick up multiple marks it has seen fall on land or water with a high success rate. This dog has developed the ability to work thru multiple diversions and many other factors that can arise in a field situation. This is a dog that can be pulled of a mark and run a blind retrieve. This dog would be able to successfully achieve an AKC Master Hunt Title.
We also compete dogs in AKC Hunt Test. If you want your dog to compete in any AKC Hunt Test that are available during its training you will be responsible for all Hunt Test, handling and travel fees and expenses for each event.
